CONCEPT

GOAL
1- build an interface for trggering sound: story, song or abstract sound (undefined yet). i would like to have something live, or data from the real world in some point (image or sound).
2-use arduino, combining max and midi in a live presentation.
OBJECT
- I
invisioned it as a bunch of long, long artificial, blonde or white, hair that maybe comes from some other place; from the ceilling, the floor or a door, maybe changing it scale, agumenting its volume and making me appear as if were a small person.

The visual example above was not quite clear to me anymore (aesthetic like), but gave me a sense of what it looked like as a wearable. This didn't work out and finally it also gave me a sense of the volume and the weight (physical and visual) that the hair should have.
So, I think by using the
QProx(QT301-D SENSOR) and
programming arduino, by determinig what outputs to have---sound distortion while interacting with the hair.
The idea would be to make a grid behind of the hair that could detects proximity and action. If I can make this work, I could think of making more than one maybe and then think better about its behaviour.
CONSTRUCTION
- by using the arduino board
(tentative codes for arduino-midi) and max msp/jitter, i should use
MIDI
Because the sound will be distorted while I play (touch, pull, curl, etc) with the hair, I think it would be coherent to have the same effect over the images while the sound does the same thing.
OUTPUT
1-sound: maybe an aria of "Dido and Eneas" from Henry Purcell

2-story: me saying a text :"I remember being free and every movement was so determined..." and looping the text so as to anulate it.
3-abstract: algorithmic sound, maybe same text shown above, sampled. Some cello would be nice too.
3-mix: too much.
PUBLIC ACTION
- I was thinking that by distorting the scale of the hair, some interesting visula effect can result and also, projecting images on top of this hair, can give a certain sense of accent to the whole performance. The idea of the hair on the t-shirt was actually creepy (as Chris Kairalla suggested) so finally having it more like part of another object or body, and me as a
puppeteer from top of the hair (motion like) can be a better idea.
